About these figures
What we count
Companies and entrepreneurs with a Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KVK) registration. Cases without a business KVK number fall outside the scope of this site. The headline number counts declared bankruptcies; suspensions of payments and Wsnp cases are listed separately. The province and sector breakdowns count bankruptcies only.
Source
The Dutch Central Insolvency Register (CIR) of the judiciary, polled daily.
Reference date
The date of the court ruling (not the publication date). A ruling is usually published within a day, but sometimes later — provisional figures can therefore still increase.
Provisional and final
A month becomes final 31 days after the end of that month. After that the figure no longer changes; late registrations or removals are shown as a footnote next to the month.
Difference with CBS figures
Statistics Netherlands (CBS) counts all declared bankruptcies, including those of natural persons without a business, and applies its own revisions. Our figures are therefore not directly comparable with the CBS statistics. View the CBS figures
